This video has gotten around virally, but I saw it again today and couldn’t help but be touched. A few weeks ago we donated a whole bunch of shirts to the Southern California MS Society to give to participants in the Challenge Walk and we know that this weekend is the Bay to Bay MS Ride from Irvine to San Diego, so we thought we’d post the video to honor all those who have walked or are riding in support of friends and family. Because we all know that when times get tough it never hurts to have someone to Stand by You…
Has anyone ever told you that you couldn’t do something? That all odds were stacked against your favor. Maybe it was a friend, a teacher, a doctor, a parent, someone whose opinion you trusted. You listened intently and they told you things like… you may never walk again, that boy will never love you, you’ll never finish high school, you’ll never complete that race, you’ll never live to forty… but despite what they said you went ahead and did it anyway. These kinds of stories make great TV and inspiring news stories, and we may think, ‘wow, that person is amazing,’ but I believe we all have stories like this of our own. So today, when you’re wondering whether or not you can finish that project on time, cook that dinner for your family, run that extra mile, think about all the things you’ve done in your life that they told you you would never do. Then despite what they say, go out and do more. Because, while I may not be your friend, your doctor, or even someone you know, I still have faith that you can do it all!

There’s something about music that brings me to a certain space or place. I hear a song and it can transport me back to yesterday or fifteen years ago. Blink 182’s “Miss You” comes on the radio and I think of my old job. Play Dave Matthews’ “Satellite” and I’m reminded of the shy sixteen year old version of myself. Blast Ton Loc’s “Funky Cold Medina” and I’m dancing in Vegas with a Red Bull and Vodka in my hand.
What songs bring you back to a particular moment in your life? What songs make you happy? What music creates the poetry that is your life?
As kids we all ask, where do babies come from? But now I want to know… where do Mermaids come from? Why? Because there are two of us in the office who just might be little mermaids. No, we don’t have red hair, but we’re terribly addicted to the water. Get the two of us swimming and we’ll never get out. Any pool, lake, ocean and we turn into small kids again. You could say that water’s like the fountain of youth for us. We splash in the water and we could swim for hours on end. Every trouble that existed, every doubt that surfaced in our minds is completely erased by the powers of water, salt and chlorine. Now, if we could only have a father who was the king of the sea and voices like bells we could live happily ever after under the sea. But I guess we’ll just have to settle for our times in the water as sisters and friends.
Or are you off the bus?… That’s the question we want to pose to you. Yes, we know, we borrowed a page from Tom Wolfe’s Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, but we think it’s a relevant one. In today’s world, where all of us are faced with so many choices, we think it wise to take a step back and think about what bus you’re going to get on. Are you going to make like Mountain Girl and ride the bus to the end? Or are you going to take off on your own adventure? It’s up to you to decide the kind of life you want to lead. So take the time today and think about it… What bus are you going to get on? What kind of life are you going to create for you?
Have you heard? Our first book is just about ready to be released once again and we’re totally stoked. Yes, we know, we sound like salty old surfers, but the weather in Los Angeles is heating up and it’s starting to feel like summer around here. Every morning the ocean air drifts right into our windows and we can’t help but get infected with that iconic sunny California speak. Make no mistake, however, because there is nothing gnarly about our enthusiasm. We’re just happy people ready to continue to make our mark on the world. After over a year, our first book in the yoga series: Grace in Surrender: A collection of poetry is ready to be published again. Life is good here at the Casibella office. In fact, we’re sitting in a circle chanting “om” right now. Okay, maybe not, but we’re sending good vibes out into the universe hoping they’ll inspire you to order your book today! Check out our Book Series page for more information.
So your pocketbook’s been hit hard by the downturn of the economy, we understand. And that’s why we created our little studio store over at Artfire. All of our shirts and the book, where you get all three shirts at once, have been reduced to half price. That’s right! You can now buy our products for half of what you can on our regular store here. And while you’re there, check out some of the other artists selling their wears. You won’t be disappointed!
Yes!
How do we know this? Well, we’ve polled thousands, submitted a thesis to our professors at Cambridge, sent a message to E.E. Cummings, and asked the National Poetry Registrar and they all agree — OPRAH IS POETRY!
Okay, maybe we didn’t go that far, heck we don’t even know if there is a National Poetry Registrar but we did watch Oprah’s twenty-fourth season kick-off party and we think her little flash mob stunt set to the Black Eyed Pea’s was, simply put, poetic.
So, if you missed it, we thought you’d want to check this out:
Because isn’t poetry everywhere?
What’s better than cookies for Christmas? Well, nothing, really. But check it out… We got included in The Sexy Vegan’s holiday gift blog right alongside cookies. So we must be as good as the sweet confection, right?
